National AutoBody Research (NABR) To Launch Four More VRS Labor Rate Surveys in Three States

NABR’s innovative Variable Rate System (VRS) survey technology continues to gain both acceptance as the industry’s preferred labor rate survey and acknowledgement as an industry game changer
.

TUCSON, ARIZONA, JUNE 17, 2015 – Today, National AutoBody Research (NABR) announces the upcoming launch of VRS Labor Rate Surveys in Northern California, Southern California, Georgia, and Indiana.

These states join other states that have already launched VRS Surveys including Florida, Georgia (for the second time), Idaho, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas.

Sponsors selected the VRS technology for its third-party independence and trusted data, convenient 24x7 real-time online access and reporting, ability to segment shops for like comparisons, and the power to enable shops to collect higher labor rates by proving the true, market-based labor rate for their shop in their area.

“As we are often told by shops, the Variable Rate System is like nothing the collision repair industry has ever seen,” said Sam Valenzuela, President of NABR. “That’s one reason why we encourage shops to request a free online demo, so they can see it with their own eyes and make an informed, educated decision about using it in their own business.  We know they need it, but they need to see that too.”

The industry’s main insurer survey calculates one prevailing rate for a market, regardless of the quality of shop.  It uses an undisclosed and invented proprietary formula, does not openly share survey results, and has faced allegations of survey data manipulation.

In contrast, the VRS survey maintains data integrity by using survey responses exactly as they were submitted by shops, then measures and reports the current range of acceptable market-based rates (not just one rate) for labor and material rates, along many dimensions including location, training, equipment, and certifications, thereby enabling different rates for different shops.

Further, the VRS uses the established science of statistics to calculate rates, not a proprietary formula.  Results are open and available for all to see, either at a statewide level for sponsored surveys, or down to the ZIP code level for VRS subscribers.

VRS subscribers gain even greater visibility to labor rates by many more factors including mileage range, training, equipment, certifications, vehicle make, and more.  This enables shops to better define their geographic market and to find apples-to-apples comparisons to their shop, thereby finding a truer, more appropriate market labor rate for their shop than the one so-called prevailing rate.

“Finally, both insurers and shops now have a common, trusted and independent source of market-based labor rate data that they can both agree on,” Mr. Valenzuela continued.  “They don’t have to argue any more, and claims can be settled at a fair and reasonable price that accurately reflects the market.”

As repair shops complete the free online survey, NABR’s VRS technology automatically calculates the range of market-based rates for several labor rates including body, paint, frame, aluminum, mechanical labor, paint & material rates, and more.

Taking the free online survey is a shop’s first step in the VRS 5-Step Solution to restore the free market system for labor rate pricing in the auto collision repair industry.  Surveys work together with active use of the VRS online tools to break through the long time trend of stagnant labor rates and restore rates to free-market based levels.

About National AutoBody Research (NABR)
NABR is a research and technology company committed to restoring the free market for labor rate pricing in the automobile collision repair industry.

Through its innovative Variable Rate System (VRS) technology, NABR provides both insurers and collision repair shops the tools they need to understand the competitive labor rates for any shop in any market.  Shops can understand their cost of doing business, and calculate appropriate labor rates for their individual shop to earn a fair, reasonable, and sufficient profit.

With labor rate data from shops nationwide, NABR built the industry’s first and only independent, third party, and objective source of real-time, national labor rate data, making the VRS the collision repair industry standard for market based labor rates.
